 Feature Films

Riverbanks long association with International productions including major feature films in India, shot in locations in India and abroad like Gandhi, Shalimar and the French Maa Ganga, including productions for Austria, France, Australia, UK, USA, Germany, Sweden etc.

Riverbanks was the first in India to introduce modern Pyro-techniques and special effects. Mechanical and photographic effects for Kamal Amrohi’s Razia Sultan, including introduction of pit falls and running ‘W’s, (a technique for using and making horses fall using card board cushioning for falling horses to save the horse and riders from injury) in the largest war scene filmed in Rajasthan using over 500 horses, 2000 camels, elephants etc. and using foreign stunt men and camera operators, this was a turning point in Indian filmmaking. Major battle stations and scenes using catapults a la Lord of the Rings – The Return of The King are reminiscent of the catapults used in Razia Sultan over 25 years ago.

His other foray in Bombay were with the film “Ghazab” – Jaan Hatheli Par before he decided to move base to New Delhi to pursue his passion of the wild’s.

…Rainfall and thunder in May ? Impossible – but the God’s moved in our favour and we were able to film torrential rain in the middle of the Ganga in Monger – the fire-brigade engines mounted on 2 barges provided enough rain to pull of the sequences…

“Mike’s scenes in the desert is reminiscent of the magical shots in David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia
